Nicholas Welter was my great, great, grandfather. He was the son of Thomas and Maria Catherina (Mangen) Welter. He was born in the country of Luxembourg in 1825--Beaufort, Echternach, Luxembourg. Nicholas immigrated to America in 1847 with his brother Peter and sister Catherine. They all settled in Big Springs Township, Seneca County, Ohio. They were all laid to rest at the St. Nicholas Church Cemetery in Frenchtown, Seneca County, Ohio.

Peter married Catherine Grine (1833-1913) at the New Riegel church on 22 Nov 1853. They had seven children: John, Nicholas, Matthew, Catherine, Anna, Nicholas and Mary Elizabeth

Catherine married Adam Simonis (1809-1879) at the New Riegel church on 3 Oct 1854. They had nine children: Nicholas, Lewis, Valentina, Henry, Margaret, Mary Catherine, Francis Xavier, John George, and Joseph.
