Sovereign H. Brown (1785-1855) was my Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather. He married Mary Bell (1796-1821), the daughter of John and Martha Jane Bell, in Harrison County, KY on 10 Jan 1814. He was a farmer in Highland County, Ohio. They had four children: Henry, Albert, Edwin and Jane. Jane was my Great, Great, Great Grandmother. She married Lewis Beeson.
Sovereign was a Sergeant in the War of 1812. He was in Capt. G. W. Barrere's Company (Calvary). The company served from 30 Apr 1812 to 6 May 1813. He was taken prisoner by the British during Hull's surrender in Detroit. His payroll records show his pay was $8.00 a month.
Sovereign's wife Mary Polly Bell died on 24 Apr 1821 at the age of 24 years, 8 months, and 21 days. She is buried at the Ebenezer Cemetery, White Oak Township, Highland County, Ohio. Sovereign married Sarah Morris on 5 Oct 1821. They had two children: James and Sarah Ann. Sovereign moved to Iowa in 1844. He died on 20 May 1855 at the age of 69 years, 6 months, and 18 days and is buried in the Timberlake Cemetery, Atalissa, Muscatine County, Iowa. His second wife Sarah died on 27 Mar 1855 at the age of 68 years, 6 months, and 25 days. She is also buried at Timberlake Cemetery.
